Elijah and Jim

(Taken by Keona with her point and shoot)

When we moved to our new church, one of the things that we thought we would have to give up was the monthly senior’s home visit. We thought about it, prayed about it, talked to the kids about it… they were all so distraught at the thought of not being able to visit “our seniors” that we decided that it probably didn’t matter if we were going to a different church. So last Saturday, we went to visit the seniors. Jim, (in the photo above) has been there every single time, since we started going. Elijah always saves a spot for him on the couch. The worker told us that when she asked Jim if he was coming to church today, he wanted to know if it was going to be “the family with all the kids” or else, he wasn’t going. ha!

We had no college students helping out with piano and song-leading, so it was left to Scott and I. I cannot transpose music at all. I can play exactly what is written- and that’s it. So while I was playing the hymns, that were a tad bit high for Scott, he whispered that I was “killing him” several times. (Sorry hun!) A man named Stanley, who was there for the first time, still thanked me afterwards for playing all the old-fashioned hymns. He said that they were so good to hear. I think they enjoyed Eve’s violin playing more than my piano playing… :)

Another man, named Ernie was there again this week. He was crying while he spoke to Scott after the sermon- while he explained that his wife, who was several years younger than him, and still living in their home, had passed away very suddenly a few weeks ago. He told Scott that he had come with a heavy heart, and Scott’s message comforted him. Praise God! I’m so thankful that He is able to use our family to be a blessing to these precious seniors.
